UUC Sway Barbarian

Abstract - Most people claim sways are one of the best performance modifications, that was enough reason to go for it. In theory as I understand it, sways are supposed to distribute the force to the inner wheel during a turn.

Purchase - Bought 2nd Hand from E46Fanatic member.

Parts - Front sway, rear sway, bushings, end links, screws, automotive grease, anti-seize compound.

Installation - I followed the DIY instructions on E46Fanatics. I started with the front side of the car because it is easier. Since it was my first under car modification, it took me some time to work the rams, jacks, etc. I also didn't have a complete tool kit, which just meant more delays. When installing sways, make sure you apply enough automotive grease and anti-seize compound in between the sway and the bushings to avoid clunking and squealing noises. After 5 hours of pain and suffering, I finished the front with them set at full stiffness. I was too tired to do the rears so saved it for another day.

Two months later, I decided to install the rears because I learned that the rear sways are the ones that make the difference. No wonder I haven't really felt sharper turns. This time I was more familiar with lifting the car, so it saved me lots of time. The only problem that I encountered during the install was taking off the stock sway. The bushing would just not come off the car. I finally yanked it off with a screw driver, almost damaging the bracket. Removing the end link from the spring assembly was also difficult. I ended up removing the complete end link assembly from the spring assembly since I didn't have proper tools. After another 5 hours, I had installed the rear sways on full stiffness.

Impressions - I have had the complete sway set on for about a month. I personally can not say that it has improved handling dramatically. It is noticeable but not drastic. My car came with sport suspension, so that may have been a factor. The quality of the product is pretty good. It definitely feels more solid and beefier than the stock sways.

Conclusions - Good production, pick one up for yourself!
