MOMO Silver Combat Shifter
Abstract - After swapping
out my interior wood trim for titanium silver trim, I needed a new shift knob
to match. The stock OEM wood shifter just looks out of place.
Purchase - Bought
2nd Hand from E46Fanatic

Parts - MOMO Silver Combat
Shifter
Installation
- The old difference between a manual and an automatic shifter is the locking
mechanism that prevents an automatic transmission from shifting into reverse
and park from neutral and drive modes without driver acknowledgements.
By
installing any manual shifter on an automatic such as the MOMO Combat Shifter,
you loose the protection from the locking mechanism. Automatic transmission
owners need to be more careful with shifting modes.
The MOMO
Combat Shifter can be installed in a few minutes. The OEM shifter is a
friction fit install. Put the shifter in neutral and pull up has hard as you
can. Be careful not to hit yourself in the head when the shifter comes off
because it will come flying at you.
The MOMO
Combat Shifter has a screw base that comes off easily. Underneath, there are
three torque screws equally spread apart. Use a hex wrench and secure it to
the shifter. Try to install the shifter as low as possible to eliminate the
gap between the shifter and the leather boot. Once secured, screw in the base
and the installation is comlete.
Impressions - The MOMO Combat Shifter is much smaller
than the OEM knob. It is more easily to get a firm grip and feels more
ergonomic. This is one of those mods where it really changes how you feel
about the car since you come in direct contact with it everytime you drive.
Sometimes I feel like switching back to the OEM shifter for a day or two to
have a change.
Conclusions - When it comes down to it, it seems that
shifters should be changed when you get bored of them. I swap the MOMO and the
OEM back and forth so I get a change once in a while. I have also heard some
good stuff about UUC shifters.
