Kamei Replica Eyelids
Abstract - Eyelids have
always been a matter of taste. I admit, it takes a while to get comfortable
with the look. Now I can't go back, stock just looks strange.
Purchase - Came free with my
replica Hamann Roof Spoiler (LINK)
Parts - Kamei Replica Sedan
Eyelids
Installations
- With most body
pieces, make sure you have a good body shop. A bad body shop will yield very
bad results. I had my Kamei Eyelids painted at Ricks Auto
Collision. I was not there at the time of the installation but they explained
to their procedure.
Since the
eyelids came primed all they needed to do was sand, prime, paint, and clear
coat. If this procedure isn't followed, the paint will have a hard time
sticking, the final product will be bumpy and not smooth, the paint will chip
easily, etc.
When
installing, be careful not to break the clips that hold the headlight trim.
They break easily and are a pain to align if broken. The installation was
easy. The kit comes with glue and double sided molding tape. I feel all this
is unnecessary. I used plan old every day double sided foam tape and mounted
it on the headlight. Because you must remove your eyelid if you want to take
out your side market, gluing it to your headlight could be hard to remove.
Impressions - At first I felt it looked ugly. It grew on me over the
weeks and now I really like it. Lots of people like the Hamann eyelid look. I
think the Hamann version looks awkward and funny, I guess it is vice versa for
them. If you don't think Hamann is aggressive enough, go for Kamei's. I also
purchased the coupe version of the Kamei's hoping that it would look more
aggressive and make it fit on the sedan, but the two are actually the same
degree of aggressiveness but different headlight shape. I wish the Kamei's
dropped more towards the high beam and less when it fans out towards the low
beam.
Conclusions - The mod came out as expected, nothing
really special.
